It is that one particular chilly Saturday morning. Nairobi weather can sometimes play games on you. The day before this, the weather forecasts department of a leading media house had predicted an extremely sunny day for this day, but here we are, shivering helplessly like the himalayan goats. That one aside, I am with Mwinga Mwadziwe the big man himself. We are at his family residence in the leafy suburbs of Karen in the outskirts of Nairobi City. Adjacent to us is Karen Road, the official address of the Deputy President of Kenya. So well, we can argue that we are in the second most protected neighborhood in Kenya, only second to that of State House where the President seats. I am here to interview my long time bosom buddy. This is a man I have know for a period spanning a half a decade. At that time, he had just been admitted to Alliance High School and was assigned to Grive House where I was also a member. I think we got to know each other on his very first day. While I cannot vividly remember what made us meet, but I can guess it was his Swahili accent. Damn, that accent can get interesting at times. If you have never listened to Swahili accent, then I think it is time. Since then, we have literally travelled the highways and lowways together. As we sip this luscious milky juice, we find ourselves laughing as we reminisce this half a decade. Well, if I live long enough to write my autobiography (which of course I will) then Mwinga Mwadziwe will form a huge chunk of it. Story for another day. Direct to the interview. I will spare you the physical descriptions today, because if I do that, we are not finishing this. Just know that he is looking extremely authoritative.

GIVE US A BRIEF INTRODUCTION ABOUT YOURSELF

Mwinga Mwadziwe is my name. I was born in Rabai constituency, Kilifi County along the sandy beaches at the Kenyan coast. I am the first born son and only son in a family of four. I started my primary education in a local school, Hademu primary School in Kaloleni – Giriama up to class five before joining Twinkle stars Academy where I completed my primary education in 2015. After my KCPE, I was admitted at the prestigious Alliance High school for my secondary education where I sat my secondary school examinations in 2019. I successfully gained admission to Mount Kenya University School of Law Parklands Campus to pursue my greatest passion which is Legal Studies. I am currently a sophomore (second year). I have so far been engaged in various spheres of leadership in the outside in my capacity as a young leader. First, I sit in the KADU – ASILI youth league as a youth mobilizer and influencer. I have taken active role as a member of Kilifi Youth Advisory Council in staging campaigns against drug and substance abuse, youth empowerment, menstrual hygiene and public participation. I have rallied like-minded peers to conduct mentorship programs in local schools around my vicinity and by far stretch extended to neighboring counties, kwale in specific. Through the help of our political leaders and friends like the Kilifi senator Hon. Stewart Madzayo and other well-wishers, I am in my final stage, yet to receive a certificate of operation for my Community Based Organization which will be aimed at stimulating direct social- economic impact to members of my ward by January 2022. I am a peaceful person and that informs my strong membership to the University and Colleges Student Peace Association of Kenya led by Wakili (Advocate) Allan Chacha. I have also taken part in voluntary service, as a way of giving back to the society through tutoring at ACK. St Clement Child Development Centre, an institution founded to help the needy students.

YOU DEFINE YOURSELF AS A LEADER, WHY DO YOU THINK YOU ARE ONE?

I have been in leadership since class 4. In my local primary school, I participated in debate competitions as at class 4 which gave me a ticket to the then Kenya National Children Assembly as a minister for special programs. However, I lost my slot at the Assembly when I transferred to a private school. I served as a head boy for two consecutive year upto the completion of my primary education. My experience at the high school started in form three where I was elected the Chairperson of Kiswahili club, Kiswahili editor in the journalism and writing club. At the beginning of my form four, I was appointed a prefect and campaigned succeffully to become a house captain of the famous Grieve House of Alliance High School, a position that was once held by The Supreme Court Judge, Justice Isaac Lenaola. Seemingly this position has a thing for legal puritans. I proceeded to be elected as the overall Captains spokesperson before being appointed to deputize the newly founded history club. At the end of form four, I was awarded a certificate of the best prefect of the year 2019. My passion has always been leaving a hallmark legacy by doing things different. In my high school, I presided over the revival of the mighty Grieve house from position in the inter house competitions of Alliance High School. All this significant achievements in the sphere of leadership in my early life have proven beyond reasonable doubt that I am a positive leader.

WHAT GRAVITATES YOU TOWARDS LEADERSHIP?

My greatest motivation as a young leader is servant leadership aimed at path finding, aligning, setting good example and legendary service delivery. I have a strong passion to touch and transforms lives and dreams of people that I lead. I eye the future impact of my leadership to the future generation. I am a believer that service to humanity is service to God. i find satisfaction when we altogether actualize our dreams.
YOU ARE A LAW STUDENT, HOW IS THE EXPERIENCE?

My experience at the campus is awesome. I was privileged to serve in one organizing committee, Mr. And Mrs. MKU event. I have taken active role in mooting which is my passion. I have participated in charity programs organized by the student council and attended several conventions invited by senior students like the UCSPAK , KPUSA and NYC. I appreciate the invitation to deliver my service to all capacities that I have been associated with. Perhaps more to come.

FUTURE AMBITIONS?

About future ambitions, I always listen to the voice of the people which is the voice of God. Vox populi, vox dei. The greatest strength of a warrior is time and patience, until then, I will wait. However, as at now I am set to fully explore my political potential should any chance of service arise both at the university level and outside politics. The baseline, politics and business is my path. I tend to use my law degree to venture in the two spheres of politics and business.

POLITICAL ROLE MODELS?

My role model in Kenyan politics is the Narok senator Hon. Ledama Ole kina. I love his passion, energy and confidence in approaching matters of concern. He is real. I too like the composure of the Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja.

BIGGEST FEAR?

Being a politician, and an upcoming serious politician, my biggest fear is to be compromised for self-interests. Perhaps that biggest fall back among once promising politicians is when they decide to sell their visions for thirty pieces of silver. As for me, I believe that I cannot be compromised. I mean what I say, I am never intimidated. Strong people cannot be intimidated, you rather eliminate them.

BEST MOMENTS IN LEADERSHIP?

My best moments in leadership was being crowned the captain (prefect) of the year at The Alliance High School, which is by far the best high school in Kenya, So that means I was the best Prefect at the best school in Kenya. I felt satisfied and encouraged to go an extra mile in service delivery. My lowest moment is when I suddenly lost my mentor in politics. It was hard to believe but tough times never last.

WHAT IS THE STATUS OF YOUR ROMANTIC LOVE LIFE? DO WE HAVE A FIRST LADY?

You personally know that she exists. I am honestly blessed to have her.

FAVORITE DISH?

My favorite dish is biryani, a popular coastal dish.

WHAT DO YOU DO AT YOUR FREE TIME?

I love reading books of philosophy and plays during my free time. I am a strong supporter of Gor Mahia FC in the Kenyan Football scene and the Manchester United in the global soccer arena.
